Professor Dr. Vahit Bicak met the the cultural sociologist working within the tradition of phenomenological sociology, Ass. prof. Dr. Mucahit Bilici.
(November 2009) Professor Dr. Vahit Bicak met the the cultural sociologist working within the tradition of phenomenological sociology, Ass. prof. Dr. Mucahit Bilici. He is a teaching staff of the John Jay College of Criminal Justice. His theoretical interest lies at the intersection of sociology and philosophy, and covers such figures as Simmel, Heidegger, Schutz and Bourdieu. He is particularly interested in the agonistic elements of classical sociology (i.e., charisma, anomie, life). On the empirical front, He has done ethnographic research on various aspects of the cultural settlement of Islam in the United States and the tension between Muslim life and American cultural forms. He is currently at work on a book manuscript dealing with the cultural citizenship of Muslim communities and the emergence of a distinct American Islam.
